Why Attend?

The current economic crisis reveals the need for greater transparency in business and financial reporting as a way to better manage risk.  XBRL is a global standard that can improve transparency.

In supporting economic recovery and growth, leaders of the Council of the European Union have identified the need to focus on “Better Regulation” and promote legislative efforts that adopt strategic global frameworks - such as XBRL Business Reporting – that will improve economic prosperity for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating not only in Europe but in other countries around the world.  They also believe that investors around the world can be empowered by having better access to both government and business data made more transparent through globally accepted frameworks like XBRL to better decision-making and risk management.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently announced several significant initiatives in business reporting that mandate the use of XBRL for public companies, mutual funds, the municipal bond marketplace and credit rating agencies.

The governments of Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States have regulatory mandates or voluntary filing programs for businesses to report information to their respective governments and agencies using XBRL.

Since XBRL has gone live in all of these nations, thousands of companies have been submitting their financial statements using XBRL interactive data technology. Companies and their management are already experiencing the benefits through lower reporting burden, cost savings and efficiency.  Investors and users of this information are benefitting from faster access to reusable, reliable information.
