Barry Smith, DCU, Active Business Reporting Limited (ABRL)
Barry Smith has worked with XBRL since 2002. Activities include PhD research at Dublin City University, Ireland, and more recently as a director of Active Business Reporting Limited (ABRL). The company was established in early 2006 in order to develop XBRL-enabled financial reporting software. Taxonomy and report template development services are also provided. Areas of particular interest include GAAP and COREP taxonomy development, dimensions and rendering. Barry is a member of XBRL Ireland, assisted with organising the 15th XBRL International Conference in Munich, and also contributes to the XBRL Rendering Working Group. He is due to deliver a hands-on XBRL training course with Anthony Schell of ValuLink in the morning on 5 May & 8 May 2008 and will co present: XBRL for Users- an overview of the technology, its benefits and application in the Financial Executive/Investment Professionals Track in the afternoon on 5 May 2008. Barry delivers XBRL training and education seminars to a wide range of academic and professional audiences on a regular basis.
Barry Smith is a chartered accountant. Prior to undertaking PhD work at Dublin City University, Barry spent five years working as an accountant in practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Germany.
