Background

XBRL, the Extensible Business Reporting Language, is an XML-based language  used to describe business reporting information. XBRL can be used for both internal and external financial reporting and for quarterly and annual financial reports and regulatory filings. New applications of XBRL technology are constantly being implemented.

Consumers of XBRL information include internal management, external regulatory agencies, analysts and investors, and others who process and analyze financial information in a timely manner. XBRL enables these consumers to obtain financial information in a more timely manner, it facilitates the reuse and automated processing and analysis of this data and provides a framework for more detailed reporting than is currently possible using traditional paper based or electronic reporting methods.

This International XBRL Conference series has a number of features that set it apart from all other XML-related and Financial Services conferences. It represents the coming together of both the business and technology sides of standards setting world in a unique networking and learning environment.

This 15th International conference is presented by XBRL International, Inc, a not-for-profit corporation of over 500 companies and agencies worldwide working together to build the XBRL language and promote and support its adoption and is hosted by XBRL Germany. The XBRL collaborative effort began in 1998 and has produced a variety of specifications and taxonomies to support the goal of providing a standard, XML-based language for digitizing business reports in accordance with the  rules of accounting in each country or with other reporting regimes such as banking regulation or performance benchmarking.
